Jobs @ AOSR
The American Overseas School
of Rome prefers to hire U.S. citizens with a minimum of two to three years of
teaching experience. Candidates with a Master's degree are preferred
although teachers without a post-graduate degree are considered if their
references and experience are outstanding. The characteristics sought
in prospective teachers are those which are not necessarily attained
through professional development – intelligence, character, integrity,
professionalism, and a commitment to giving their best to students.
Candidates who are passionate about their teaching, flexible, self confident,
and adapt well to change are ideal for AOSR.
Ideally all candidates are interviewed in person, however, in some cases candidates may be interviewed
by video conferencing. In all cases, professional references will be checked.
Transcripts are also a part of the hiring process. Preference is given
to candidates who have a demonstrated track record contributing to the
broader life of the school as a coach, yearbook teacher, club sponsor,
chaperone, etc. A strong background in technology is considered important
for all candidates.
How does AOSR determine which candidates will be hired?
Resumes, letters of reference, college and post-college transcripts are
reviewed to select the candidates to be interviewed. After a personal
interview, references will be checked and finalists selected. The Head
of School attends recruiting fairs sponsored by International Schools
Services and other recruiting agencies on an annual basis.
Although most candidates are hired through recruiting agencies, AOSR
also hires professional teachers and administrators who send their applications
directly to the school at jobs@aosr.org
