Dr. Beth Kempler Pfannl

Head of School

A native New Yorker, who grew up in Madrid, Beth Pfannl received her B.A. from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and her doctorate from the Sorbonne. She holds a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in School Administration from Rhode Island College. In 2003, she received a National Distinguished Principal Award from the US Department of Education and the National Association of Elementary School Principals; one of two selected from American international schools around the world. Fluent in Spanish and French and conversant in Italian, Dr. Pfannl has over twenty years of experience in the field of education. Prior to joining AOSR as PreK-12 Principal in August 2003, she was Elementary Principal for nine years at the American School of Asuncion, Paraguay, where she had also been Interim Assistant Head. In addition to numerous positions in administration, she has worked as an elementary school teacher, as well as a university professor in American literature and social sciences, and has presented regularly at professional conferences. Dr. Pfannl was appointed Head of School in July 2006.

AOSR has a long tradition of academic excellence, and our alumni all over the world have very fond memories of their years spent at the school.
