Pre–Kindergarten
A Description of Our
Pre–Kindergarten Program
Our program serves three and four–year–olds who have turned that age by October 31st of the academic year. It is a full day program, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 3:15 p.m. There are currently two teachers with Early Childhood certification and Master degrees in Early Childhood Education and four teacher assistants who have years of experience with young children. Many teachers are bilingual (Italian and English) and some speak other languages as well.
Philosophy
We believe that each child is unique and that individuality is to be cherished and recognized. Our philosophy is that each child deserves to be listened to, accepted, valued, and respected, and has the right to an education that will develop his or her potential to the fullest. This may be your child's first time in school. We want the experience to ignite a love of school and enhance his/her potential as a lifelong learner.
Our goal is to provide a developmentally appropriate and individualized learning environment that enables the children to grow physically, emotionally, socially and cognitively. Our classroom is “child–centered.” We facilitate and guide children in making appropriate choices. We stretch a child's mind with new experiences and activities daily.
Our program is based on the notion that children learn best by doing. Through their play, children experience first–hand how things work and build an understanding of the world we live in. We believe that “play is the work of young children.” We offer concrete opportunities for children to learn through interacting with materials and people. We encourage children to observe, to be active, to think, to create, to ask, to theorize and to experiment.
We do this in a safe, loving and caring environment providing each child with a sense of security, trust and belonging. We know that when children feel safe, they are more able to explore not only materials but also their relationships with peers and adults.
We at AOSR are partners with you in your child's education. Open communication is a key to this partnership. We are available to answer questions and concerns you may have. We welcome you to visit the classroom and share your area of interest or expertise. All of us, parents and educators alike, are committed to providing the best for your child.
